Listen to them - the children of the night, what music they make.

~Said in a very embarrassing Backstreet Boys song voice~ Oh my God, I'm back again!

Don't judge me on my voice, and don't judge me on my song choi...who am I kidding, where on earth did that come from!?!

Oh, who the hell cares! It's Halloween Eve Eve Eve!  And what a very important Friday it is for most people out there on this planet called Earth.  People preparing busily for their Halloween parties for this weekend.  Making sure you've got enough candy/sweets to give to enough children this weekend and... well, doing other things for the build up the Holiday of the year, HALLOWEEN!!!

Is anybody else getting excited?

So far today I've gone shopping with my boyfriend, if we didn't go today then the shelves would be bare all week because the shelves in the shops would be empty.  The supermarket was packed!  So it was good job we went today.

I'm really lucky, I've been well enough lately to actually get excited about Halloween.  The past two years have been hard for me on Halloween, but this year I plan to go all out.  Well-ish.  My best friend 5 Apples (nicknamed after the height of Hello Kitty) is throwing her annual Halloween party.  Although she only decided to throw it this year a few days ago.  so every bodies been rushing around looking for last minute costume ideas.  I'm excited about mine.  I'm dressing as a rockabilly pin up zombie girl, though I won't be able to paint my whole arms and that, but hey I'll make it work.  Danny's costume is particularly epic, but I'm not allowed to say what it is.  I'm sure there will be photo's.

Speaking of costumes and photo's, everyone should go and check out Justine's blog party, she has some rather amusing photographs of her friends of the blogging world in their costumes.  I was invited but unfortunately all my photo's involve me in my more wild child ways, I'm either drunk, pulling obscene gestures or wearing some very unlady like things.  So I'm routing through the depths of mum's photograph cupboard.  There has to be one of me in my more tame Cherry ways haha.

Well today I've spent most of the day making Brain cakes, thanks to Sian's wonderful Zombie blog post.  I'm in the middle of making them waiting for them to cool down but I can't wait to finish them and eat them all up.  So thank you Sian, and your wonderful blogging ways! I will be sure to post photo's too.

Also tonight, for the first time in my little Cherry life, I'm going to carve a pumpkin.  I've never done it before, and Danny has insisted that this year I have to do one with him.  I'm sooooo excited.  I want to make a Jack Skeleton one.

I hope everyone's as excited as me.  Let me know what you're up too!!!

p.s. I love my post title!

Cherry Neko (The Zombie Years...volume three; anime)

I am so excited about the next instalment of the Zombie Years.  I'm a huge Japan fan (I've even started learning Japanese, one day I will go there and I will know what people are saying!), and I have a special spot in my heart for anime and manga.  Since I was a tiddly tot people have often said I belong in anime and manga.  Apparently who I am, is a perfect anime character.  Smiles all around.  Anyway I've recently discovered Highschool of the Dead and I think its fair to say (barring any Ghibli's) that it's my favourite anime...ever!

It's brilliant.  The zombies are eerie and the storyline is amazing (I'm only half way through the first season but I can already tell I'm going to love it.  Although there is a slight drawback, it's kinda got its pervy moments.  A lot if knickers and bra's and boob jiggle noises.  Even the opening scene, is loaded with them and some very naughty pictures.  But if you can bare to sit through the tons and tons of pointless knicker shots.  It's not porn/Hentai but sometimes the images definitely come across that way.  So this show is not for anyone who is easily offended by these things (please remember that its mainly high school girls knickers and bras, and there's the obviously naughty stances etc) do not watch this series.  The story is brilliant.  A group of teenagers and their ditzy school nurse try to escape school during a zombie invasion, that seems to be taking over the world.  (I'm looking forward to watching episode six, I have to wait till the weekend though which means I have a sad face).  The story really will keep you on the edge of the seat, and theme song will have you bopping along with it in no time.  The characters are a real joy to watch develop, and the script is amazing.  I won't post a trailer for it because I don't want people to become offended, so go and check it out for yourselves if you want.

Cherry Neko (The Zombie Years...volume two; Video Games)

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm actually a bit of a video game nut, and whenever I have some spare moneyz I do tend to go and buy myself a new game (or buy my boyfriend one just so I can play it).  I like video games.  I like zombies.  You combine the two?  You get a very happy, bouncy and crazed zombie killing Cherry.  I'm also a huge co op gaming fan (not so much online), there's just something that makes me smile when I'm sitting down Danny or my friends and laughing, it's so much fun.

I was going to nominate something else originally as my favourite zombie game, but then the other day I tried out a new game and have decided I love it far much more.  Borderlands is one of my favourite games of all time, and it had some downloadable content that I finally purchased the other day and it's a download pack called The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned (which I think is a reference to The Island of Dr. Moreau).  The story is brilliant, and funny.  Dr. Ned, who is basically a side character (Dr. Zed) in the Borderlands game with a fake moustache, accidentally has created zombies, and then when trying to find the antidote has ended up creating wereskags (there version of werewolves) instead.  Oh dear.  The game itself is really fun, having a very old school horror film vibe to it.  Even though the colours can be bright and acidy, there's a hint of classic that keeps it from tiliting overboard.  There's tons of film references that just make me smile so much, even a Scooby Doo reference (Harry, Skaggy and the Misery Machine).  The zombies run, and they can surround you quite quickly but that's all part of the fun.  If your in the mood for some zombie gaming fun I highly recommend this download pack, and if your in the mood for a good game I recommend Borderlands too.

Cherry Neko (The Zombie Years...volume one; music)

Here it is, the first of my zombie posts.  Aren't you all lucky?  I ran through songs and songs and then some more songs trying to find out what my favourite zombie song is.  I had The Misfits, The Creepshow, Schoolyard Heroes and Zombina and te Skeletones to name a few.  But my chosen zombie song of the day is from Jonathan Coulton.  I love this guy, his songs are so epic.  I first found out about him through my favourite video game of all time, Portal.  He wrote the credit song at the end, and bam, it was love.

So here you go, hope this song helps you to understand zombies a little better.

Enjoy.

Minion of Misery

I have very good news, I have been chosen.  I know, it's exciting to know your Cherry Neko is a chosen one.  But the real question is, will she use this power for good or evil.  After all even villains think they're saving the world...and I bet they like cupcakes too.  Wait.  I've got this wrong.  It doesn't mean I've got superpowers, but it does mean that Little Gothic Horrors has named me as a Minion of Misery.  I suppose that's just as good and it means I don't have to get out of bed to do it.

So here it goes, Minion of Misery Cherry Neko, REPORTING FOR DUTY!

My favourite dark book.

I should choose something like The Picture of Dorian Gray or Interview with a Vampire because these are two of my favourite dark books of all time.  But I am drawn to another book today.  Simply because I've recently read the latest instalment and then started from the beginning again.  The wonderful, the funny and genuinely original Skulduggery Pleasant.  I'm choosing the whole series though.  Skulduggery Pleasant has recently knocked Anne Rice's the Vampire Chronicles of the top as my favourite book series of all time, and Skulduggery's also easily become on of my favourite characters of all time.  It's a book aimed at teenagers and young adults, but it is "dark".

"You're still upset about that time I made you explode, aren't you? I can tell."

The main character, Skulduggery is a detective who just seems to belong in an old detective movie.  He as wit a that pours through every sentence that comes through his mouth, a quick trigger finger and a slight temper that goes with it.  Plus as everyone who's ever heard the name Skulduggery knows, he is one dangerous man...skeleton.  Just don't get on his bad side.

What makes the book series dark though? It's the characters.  A bespoke tailor who knows how to box, but Ghastly Bespoke is more known for the terrible scarring all over his body that he has because of a curse.  Then there's Doctor Nye (a really eerie character that doesn't show up until book 5), it (never a she or he) is a very tall thing with really long limbs, dead like skin and a huge scab for a nose.  It works in the underworld with an apprentice (the headless horseman).  The horseman travels dead bodies between the two realms and ensures that Doctor Nye never tries to escape.  Doctor Nye, spends its days cutting up the bodies of the dead and removing organs to try and find out, just what a soul looks like.  There's a scary seen when he does this to one of the main characters while they're still alive.

There's also more classic style characters, like the Necromancers (a religion that live in temples and would rather study how to become immortal, than fight), then there's the vampires.  These vampires don't sparkle.  They don't just fall in love and become the sweetest creatures in the world.  These vampire's shed their human skin at dust to become pale hairless "animals", and they have a blood lust that would rival even most vampires I read about.  There is one vampire who tries to fight the disease because he loves anoter character, but this love is not a whiney emo love that tends to literature today, its basically stalking and obsessive.  The zombies are briliant too.  They're not like your typical zombies, once they're awaken from the dead they can pretty much hold up a normal conversation al long as they don't eat flesh (that's when they become mindless zombies), but they do still decay after death at a slightly slower rate than the dead.  Ok I've prattled on enough, people should just read it, then come and tell me.

My favourite dark movie.

I'm a huge fan of film (I majored in film studies all those years ago), so choosing one film is pretty damn hard.  I love all films (well most), from all decades.  I love Nosferatu (1922), and the Universal Monsters have always managed to put a smile on my face, then there's Dracula (funny Buffy version, Gary Oldman being a nice piece of eye candy and an awesome actor, and then there's Christopher Lee (in Hammer we Trust).  There's classic Hitchcock, and weird Lynch, there's Wes Craven and Carpenter.  Gah!  Choosing is hard.  So I'm choosing this, simply because I've just watched "Wishful Thinking" (mmmm Supernatural) and I'm in the mood for more Raimi.  The Evil Dead.  Ah, Bruce.  Ah, Sam Raimi.  Ah, crazy demonic antics.  The films terrible.  It's shot on 16mm camera, which is then expanded so much it becomes grainy (to 35mm I think?), the actors are basically college friends and the budget was a measly $400, 000.  Which is not a lot for a film.  However, none of that matters.  It's the fact it's so terrible that is makes it amazing.  Somehow, Sam Raimi made what should have a been a film so terrible it should barely be watchable and turned it into something so amazing it's considered art.  It truly is art in my eyes.  He hits every beat perfectly, and throws in so much gore it could make Eli Roth blush.  Forget the Splat Pack of horror directors, he is the splat master.  He took a simple concept such as reading from a book and bringing the dead back to life into something new.

Romero may have pretty much invented the genre, but it's Raimi who twisted it into something new.  I love The Evil Dead can you tell?  Just be glad I talked about evil dead you could have easily had a 10,000 word essay on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and why we should all bow down to Whedon lol.

My dark secret.

This is sooooo tough, because I really can't think of any dark secrets.  In fact I can't think of any secrets.  Although, when I used to work in a certain place, there was some I used to mini-hitler.  She was a horrible, horrible person, who had no respect for anyone, except those who she could brown nose to.  She pretty much believed that the place would fall apart if she wasn't there.  Now I'm not a horrible person, but I'm not a people person either.  I just don't like people who aren't respectful, and those people certainly don't get my respect.  (It sounds like a gangster thing haha).  Any way one day I was really ill (I think I had the flu), and the only reason I came in was because a friend asked me to come in for an hour then I could leave.  So I plucked up the spirit downed a lot of lucazade and lemsip and went in, only problem is half way through I started to vomit.  So I asked mini-Hitler to leave, she said no and tried to make me stay the whole shift.  So when she went on her break I decided to go home (with or without her permision).  I was in the bathroom when she walked in, she left her coffee on the window ledge (who does that any way ew), so while she was on the loo I may have spat in her coffee with my horrible after vomit spit.  I hate it when people spit, especially when they do it on other people.  It makes me sick thinking about it.  But I still think se deserved it.  That's what she gets for judging me on how I look and not who I am.

There we go, my dark choosing's.  I know it's a lengthy one, but there you have it.  I hope you enjoyed reading it, now it's my turn to choose some Minions of Misery of my own mwahahaha

Zombie Blogging Sadness

I apologize to everyone who came here on Friday expecting a zombie post!!!  I was terrible, I didn't post a zombie blog.  And this makes me a very sad little zombie, knowing that I let some people down, and that I missed out on something so awesome.

I haven't been well for a few weeks, and I thought I was getting better, but unfortunately it ended up with me being rushed to hospital last week and I only got home this morning.  Luckily I feel much better now, with all my special medicine and lots of tea!

Really sorry.

p.s. I'm about to do my own zombie walk, I'm like the zombie with only one leg so he's dragging himself along while everyone else is miles ahead.  I can't wait to read your zombie posts!

p.p.s. My zombie post that I was meant to do is actually a bit long so I've decided to spread the zombie love and I'm gonna break it down into smaller posts and dash them about the week.
